Different Ways to Eat Passion Fruit

A passion fruit despite its appearance is not that hard to eat, but with that being said it will not feel as simple as just biting into a banana. And there are different ways of using up the insides of your passion fruit as well as simple just eating it.

  • Eat it all: You can eat the pulp and the seeds. Not everyone likes to eat the seeds, but they are completely are edible, although many people find that they can taste slightly sour. Scoop out the seeds with a spoon and put them straight into your bowl. To make the seeds taste sweeter you can sprinkle a little sugar or sweetener onto them to cut down on the sharpness. You can also add passion fruit seeds to fruit and green salads where they need an extra taste kick.
  • Make passion fruit juice: If you want to save the seeds for someone else to eat you can strain your passion fruit seeds from the pulp which will leave you with a juice. Then you can basically strain your passion fruit pulp through a sieve to get pure fruit juice. Make sure that you push your pulp with the back of a large spoon through the sieve to get all the juice out. Passion fruit juice is delightful to drink on its own over ice or you can add the juice to a fruit smoothie.
  • Make a passion fruit coulis: A coulis is what people put on our deserts as a flavoursome type of sauce. It is usually a puree made from strained fruit made without the use of the fruit rind. A passion fruit coulis is fashioned by simmering a combination of sugar and passion fruit pulp for a few minutes on the stove and then straining away the seeds. You could also add vanilla extract or other spices of your choice to the pulp prior to boiling it for additional flavors. You can use your homemade passion fruit coulis to spoon into your natural yogurt for a vibrant tangy taste. Passion fruit coulis is also delicious when poured over ice cream, and it can be used in your next passion fruit cheesecake recipe.
  • Passion fruit jelly: The flavor of the tropics can make your breakfast pop by adding some passion fruit jelly to your morning muffin. To make up a jelly is fairly simple as you just boil your passion fruit pulp with sugar and add lemon juice to take away and acidity. You could also use other fruits too like pineapple or coconut to add to your passion fruit jelly.
