Have you ever experienced gulping your iced coffee for fear that the ice will melt and you will just taste the water with a hint of coffee? That’s exactly how most of the iced coffee drinkers feel. But even though you’re not alone, drinking watered down coffee is the worst. Not only is it a waste of perfectly mixed coffee, but it’s also a waste of money.

What To Do With Watered Down Coffee

Even if it tastes so bad already, watered down coffee is not completely useless. Besides, it will totally be a waste if you just threw it in the sink (which you should not do ever). So the best way to use it is to turn it into coffee ice cubes.

Coffee ice cubes are simple to understand – they are ice cubes made of coffee. However, they do a lot more than just make your drink fancy. For coffee lovers, these ice cubes add to the flavor and richness of their iced coffee. Plus, you don’t have to worry about these ice coffee cubes watering down.

Coffee Ice Cube Recipes

There are many coffee ice cube recipes available, but here is a compilation of the most popular coffee drinks that warrant their own ice cubes.

  • Mocha Ice Cubes

To create mocha ice cubes, you’ll need 2 cups of iced coffee, a cup of milk, and a tablespoon of chocolate powder. For the chocolate powder, you can use anything that you prefer.

Start by putting all the ingredients in a large measuring cup. Stir everything together just to make sure that the taste is even all throughout. Then pour it over an ice cube mold. Place it in the fridge, and after 5 hours, you have your mocha ice cubes.

  • Caramel Macchiato Ice Cubes

If you love sweet and tasty coffee, then you would love to have more caramel macchiato ice cubes in your next cup. To create this recipe, you need a cup of iced coffee, a cup of milk, and ¼ cup of caramel. Pour all the ingredients into a measuring cup and whisk it. You have to whisk this properly since you want all the caramel to be distributed evenly.

Pour the mix into the ice cube molds and store them in the freezer for 5 hours.

  • Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cubes

Vietnamese coffee is one of the thickest coffee varieties you will ever taste. It offers a distinct flavor thanks to the roasted beans and the condensed milk poured into the drink.

To make Vietnamese coffee cubes, you will need 1 ½ cup of iced coffee and half a cup of sweetened condensed milk. Pour the ingredients into a large measuring cup and whisk them until you have an even color for the mix. Then, pour them into an ice cube mold and let it stay in the freezer for 5 hours.

  • Classic Coffee Ice Cubes

Not everyone loves milky and creamy coffee. In fact, the simplest version of coffee can be a lot richer in taste. Unlike coffee with milk, cold brew coffee cubes give a stronger kick to your iced coffee.

To make one, simply use 2 cups of freshly brewed coffee and pour them over the ice cube mold. Make sure that your coffee does not have ice cubes so that you retain the rich flavor.

More on Coffee Ice Cubes

Making coffee ice cubes seems very easy but there are a few things anyone should know before attempting to make them. Here are some tips for a better coffee experience.

  • Don’t put too much milk.

Milk makes coffee creamy. Just imagine having milk cubes on your drink and they melt. It’s as if you drank milk itself. So to avoid converting your coffee into something else entirely, make sure to put less milk in the cubes. 1 to 2 cups of milk is enough provided that you don’t add more once you put the coffee cubes in.

Another way to do this is to put half a cup of milk in your ice cube mixture and then just add more milk on the actual drink. This way, you can control how creamy and sweet your iced coffee will taste.

  • Mix sweeteners before freezing.

If you tried mixing any kind of sweetener in a cold drink, you’ll notice how hard it is to dissolve them. To avoid this kind of struggle, what you can do is mix the sweetener on your hot coffee before you put it on an ice mold. However, let your hot coffee cool to room temperature so it doesn’t melt or affect the ice mold.

  • The stronger the brew, the stronger the iced coffee.

You might already know this but it’s best to mention it anyway. If you want a stronger and richer coffee, you should not neglect your iced coffee cubes. This means that your coffee cubes themselves should be made from a strong brew in order for them to increase the overall richness of the drink. Using a French press is ideal if you want to play around with the strength of your coffee.

  • Add flavor.

Now that you aren’t afraid of ice making your coffee tasteless, you can play around with different spices and flavors to add. For example, you can try putting cinnamon or mint leaves on top of the ice cube mold for added flavor. If you love chocolate, then you can sprinkle some chocolate powder. You can even add a dash of caramel just to replicate your favorite childhood drink.

Now that there’s a new way of drinking cold coffee, you will never look at watered coffee the same way again. And once you get the hang of it, you will realize that there are more coffee recipes to try. You can add spices, or different sweeteners, and even adjust how strong your coffee will be.
