We present to you four easy recipes with eggs that you can make using only your microwave oven! Yes, you read that right; four recipes using only your oven.
Scrambled Egg
Who does not like a good old scrambled egg? Each one of us has our favorite recipe for it! Some of us like to pair it with fried sausages and bacon and some of us may opt for a healthier choice and have it with a salad. Whichever way you have it, the good news is now you can make it in your microwave!
Step 1: Prepare your ingredients and utensils
First of all, get your ingredients and utensils ready. You will need a heatproof bowl or mug. Make sure it is ovenproof and does not have gold designs on it. The next thing you will need is a fork, to mix, and a paper towel. For ingredients, the basic things you will require are a couple of eggs, a pinch of salt and pepper, a splash of milk, some oil and herbs of your choice. For some extra topping, you can add coriander, shredded cheese or sliced bacon.
Step 2: Prepare your bowl or mug
While baking anything in the oven, it is very important to grease the insides of your dish. Doing so your food will not stick to the inside and it will be easy for you to eat it. So take a cooking brush and dip it in oil, or simply dampen a tissue paper with some oil and rub it around your bowl or mug.
Step 3: Prepare the mixture
This is the most important step, to prepare your mixture. Crack two eggs in your prepared bowl and add a splash of milk, about a tablespoon. Then add in your seasonings; salt and pepper. You can also add chili flakes if you want it spicy.
Step 4: Whisk the mixture
Then break the eggs with a fork and whisk. Whisk the mixture in a swift and circular motion and be careful not to spill the eggs. The more you whisk and create volume, the fluffier your scrambled eggs will be. You should have a pale and bubbly mixture.
Step 5: Cook the eggs
To cook the eggs, cover the bowl with the paper towel and place it at the center of the oven plate. Settings vary from oven to oven, so set the heat on high at first for about 45 seconds. Then, take it out and stir in your cheese and bacon. This will prevent the cheese from burning and will fluff up your eggs.
Put it back in the oven for another 30 seconds. Then take it out and check its consistency. If it still looks runny then it will require another 10 to 15 seconds.
Step 6: Eat!
Finally, before serving, top it off with coriander and all there’s left to do is devour! If you are feeling fancy, you can do all this in a very small ramekin and serve it up with a big breakfast. It will look like a cheat egg soufflé.
Poached Egg
Some of you may have taken a long time to master the art of poaching an egg. What if I told you there is an easy and quick alternative? You can do it in the oven too! The best part? The whole process takes only a couple of minutes.
Step 1: Prepare your ingredients and utensils
You will need an oven-safe bowl or mug. It should be small with a round and flat bottom. A 3-inch ramekin will work best. After poaching, it will give you the perfect shape to top it on a toast or English muffin. You will also need a paper towel, a knife, a little bit of water and of course, an egg.
Step 2: Prepare and get cracking
Grease the insides of your vessel with oil. You can also take a small cube of butter and rub it inside. After that, carefully crack the egg and do not break the yolk. The yolk must be intact. Then, pour the water right on top of the egg. Do it very slowly and gently.
Step 3: Cook the egg
Before cooking the egg, cover it with a paper towel as it can splatter. Set your oven to the highest setting and cook it for about 40 seconds. Then take it out and check. If the whites are still runny, put it back and it will need another 15 to 20 seconds. Different ovens have different temperature settings so you need to observe and adjust accordingly.
Step 4: Serve and enjoy!
When fully cooked, take it out of the oven and run a thin knife along the rims. Turn the ramekin upside down and it should come off easily as it was greased earlier. Serve it on toast, English muffins and pair it with cherry tomatoes or cooked spinach.
Mini Quiche
When you think of an elegant breakfast, a French quiche automatically pops into your mind. However, somedays we crave a quiche Lorraine but do not have the energy to do so. Well, guess what? You can also make quiche in an oven! Yes, with the right ingredients, utensils and time, it is perfectly possible. It will slightly differ in taste from the actual quiche but this recipe being microwavable is truly the biggest perk.
Step 1: Prepare your ingredients and utensils
For this fancy and filling breakfast in a mug, you will need a coffee mug or just about any mug with high sides. You will also need a small bowl and a fork to prepare the filling, a spoon and of course, paper towel. For the ingredients, you will need two eggs, butter crackers, a dash of milk, seasonings and fillings of your choice. Remember to grease the insides of your mug with butter or oil.
Step 2: Prepare the crust and filling
For the crust, you have to make do with butter crackers. Place a thick layer of crushed butter crackers on the surface of the mug and squeeze it in place with the back of a spoon. Then in a separate small bowl, make the mixture. Crack the eggs, mix in the milk and add seasonings; salt, pepper and cayenne for some heat. Add in your favorite fillings, spinach and tomatoes are a good combination. Add in your favorite grated cheese. You can also add your desired herbs such as chives or chopped cilantro. Mix these well until fully combined.
Step 3: Cook it
Pour the mixture gradually on top of the crust. Make sure not to break the crust. Then cover the mug with a paper towel and heat it on high for about 2-3 minutes. Take out and check; the egg should be completely set.
Step 4: Scoop and devour!
Your quiche is now completely cooked. You can scoop it out with a spoon and enjoy it just like that. Feel free to top it with a sauce.
Omelet
One of the best things to do with an egg is to make an omelet. You can place it in a sandwich, top it on rice or have it as it is; omelet is a multipurpose component.
Step 1: Prepare your ingredients and utensils
You will need a flat and wide oven safe dish. The flatter the dish, the more surface area your omelet will have to cook and the thinner it will be. You will also require a fork, a paper towel and a brush to grease the sides. For the actual omelet, you will need two eggs, some milk, finely chopped tomatoes, onions and coriander. You can add chopped mushroom and cheese for some extra flavor and texture. For seasoning, you will need salt and pepper. Once ready, grease the inside of your dish with oil.
Step 2: Make the mixture
For the omelet mixture, whisk the eggs and a tablespoon of milk with a fork. Then add in your seasonings and fillings. Once thoroughly combined into a homogenous mixture, cover it with a paper towel.
Step 3: Cook the omelet
This should cook fast as the dish used is wide. Cook the omelet on high for a minute. Check it and if not fully cooked give it another 10-15 seconds. Then use a spatula to take it out and enjoy!
We hope you will try these recipes at home. Remember, you are the boss in your kitchen, so use this a guide and do whatever your heart desires with the egg.
